Maharashtra government reduces the cost of Coronavirus test

According to the new prices, private laboratories can only charge a maximum of INR 980, INR 1,400 or INR 1,800 depending on the tests, said Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope.

Private laboratories across the state have been conducting coronavirus tests to identify new cases infected with COVID-19, however, as per recent directive issued by the government, the state has decided to reduce the cost of the test. This is the second time the price of the test is being revised, and this time, the government has reduced it further by INR 200 per test. 

Therefore, according to the new rates, private laboratories can only charge a maximum of INR 980, INR 1,400 or INR 1,800 depending on the tests, said Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope. This will be the fixed rate for the tests and the move is said to add more relief to the citizens. The earlier price for the test was INR 4,500 and INR 2000 for the TR-PCR tests.

As per reports, the price of a COVID-19 test is determined by one of these stages. The standard rate for a laboratory test is INR 980, and the rate for submitting samples at COVID centres, hospitals, laboratories is INR 1400 while sample collection from home is at INR 1800.

The state is also emphasising on testing more people in the state thereby control the spread of coronavirus, and as per the current data, 70,000 tests are being performed for every one lakh population. Officials are putting in efforts to ensure they increase them, and the Health Minister has appealed to the District Collector and Municipal Commissioners to be vigilant so that patients are charged accordingly keeping the revised rate in mind
