With schools on a break for Diwali vacations, additional teachers may not be able to reap the benefits of the holidays since they have to come for electoral work till the end of the month, highlighted reports.

Whilst the state has proclaimed a Diwali break till November 10, those teachers who have been declared as surplus in the educational establishments will have to report for their special voters’ card drive by the election commission from November 1 to 30.

Based on accounts, in aided schools wherein the student-teacher ratio is greater than 30:1, surplus teachers have to be declared. The surplus teachers have been asked to report to centres wherein electoral work is ongoing. However, they will receive leave for three days which is from Thursday to Saturday for the Diwali festivities.

A report by the Times of India quoted Vice President, Teachers Democratic Forum, Rajesh Pandya who elaborated on how additional teachers must be treated at par with the regular one’s since they have washed their hands off the summer vacations too.

Moreover, the state election commission has begun the updation and correction of electoral rolls. Therefore, those citizens who want their names to be entailed in the electoral rolls can do so by November 30, amidst the approaching BMC 2022 elections.
