The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), since July, has jabbed 8,672 bedridden patients in Mumbai. Out of which 3,918 are fully vaccinated, till November 17, highlighted reports. Going by this, nearly 45%  of the bedridden citizens are fully vaccinated. A majority of 54% have taken the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Adhering to the Bombay HC orders of conducting a door-to-door vaccination drive, the civic body started the drive for those unable to reach the vaccination centres.

Additional Municipal Commissioner and Public Health In-charge in BMC, Suresh Kakani, said that in the beginning, 4,500 patients had enrolled themselves for the drive. After that, they administered doses as per ward level demand. While talking to the media persons, he further added that they did not have a set target as this service is demand based. Many people opted for doorstep vaccination due to old age or several co-morbidities.

War rooms also played a vital role in managing the drive, said Prashant Gaikwad, Assistant Municipal Commissioner from D ward.

Mumbai has already achieved its set target of administering the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. As of Friday, Arthur Road Jail and Byculla District prison inmates are fully inoculated. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, November 17, the state attained the mark of vaccinating 7cr citizens with at least the first dose of the vaccine making Maharashtra the second state in administering the highest number of first dose of vaccine in India.
