A shocking incident that was caught on camera shows that Chandivali Shiv Sena MLA Dilip Lande was forcing a corporator to sit on a waterlogged street. He was also seen asking his supporters to dump garbage on the corporator. The video went viral on Saturday, June 12.

The Shiv Sena legislator did this to "punish" him for allegedly not getting drains cleaned properly. Visuals of the act went viral on social media leading to a reaction against the legislator and his party.

The incident took place after areas such as Sanjay Nagar and Sunder Baug in Kurla were flooded following heavy rainfall.

In the two-minute video, it can be seen that Lande made the contractor sit on the waterlogged drain and asked his aide and party workers to pour the silt and garbage on him. The legislator was also seen asking why his boss did not come to the spot. “The waterlogging exists for the past eight days but you have no time to clean the drains. We were forced to clean it up,” Lande was seen threatening the contractor amid the abuses hurled at him.

Reportedly, the contractor was not present to get the drains cleaned and with the city receiving heavy monsoon rainfall over the past few days, the choked drains led to waterlogging on the road.

In a statement shared with the media, Lande said those responsible for preventing waterlogging in the area are not showing up to do their job. "I had been calling up the contractor for the last 15 days requesting him to clear the road. He never did that. When he came to know, he rushed there. I told him that it is his responsibility and he should do it. We brought the contractor here so that he realised the plight of the people," MLA Dilip Lande told ANI.

"People have placed their trust and elected me as an MLA. So to fulfil my duty, I came here with the chief of the local party unit and Shiv Sainiks to clean the drains," the legislator added.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya has slammed Sena MLA calling it hooliganism. “Mumbai mayor says 103% garbage removed by BMC & Shivsena MLA Dilip Lande assaulting Contractor from not removing Garbage. Actual Gandagardi is for Commission from Contractor. BMC means Nexus of Mafia Contractors & Gundagiri of Shivsena. Is this acceptable to Congress Rahul Gandhi.(sic),” Somaiya tweeted.

Shiv Sena has been ruling the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the past 25 years.
