Tesla has begun the process of recruiting people for senior leadership positions in India as per an anonymous source quoted by ET. This comes as Tesla officially announced its entry into the highly competitive Indian automotive space earlier this year.

The aforementioned source said that Tesla is looking to hire a head of sales and marketing, and a head of human resources, among other staff. Tesla appointed Prashanth R. Menon as the Director for its Indian operations last month.

Experts say that a lack of key infrastructure such as electric car charging stations can be detrimental to an EV-centric future. However, several states have already announced plans or are in the process of building EV charging infrastructure in preparation for electric vehicles.

Tesla has chosen Karnataka for its first assembly plant in the country. Reports say that Tesla is in close discussions with the local administration to set up a car assembly plant in the suburbs of the State capital, Bengaluru.

The California-based EV manufacturer is believed to be monitoring the Central Government’s announcements with regard to the tax laws that may bring down the cost of owning an EV in the country.

Moreover, Tesla is also waiting for additional incentives for EV manufacturers as part of the Production-Linked Incentive (PIL) program which offers incentives that rise each year. This was put in place to make India an attractive destination for global manufacturers.
