Bringing no respite to the common people, the fuel rates were hiked by the oil marketing companies (OMCs) after a two-days gap on Thursday, October 14. With this hike, the petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai has hit a fresh all-time high of ₹110.75 and ₹101.40 per litre respectively.
Mumbai was the first metro city where petrol crossed the ₹100-mark.
Earlier, the prices were hiked on Monday, October 11. The pause on the prices on October 12 and 13 came after a seven-day consecutive rise. The rates vary across the states due to value-added tax (VAT).
Meanwhile, petrol is now retailing at ₹104.79 in Delhi and diesel is selling at ₹93.52 per litre. Whereas, petrol and diesel are selling at ₹105.43 per litre and ₹96.63 per litre, respectively in Kolkata.
The people in Chennai will have to shell out ₹102.10 for a litre of petrol and ₹97.93 for one litre of diesel.
The surge in international oil prices ended a three-week hiatus in rates on September 28 for petrol and September 24 for diesel. Since then, diesel rates have gone up by ₹3.5 paise per litre and petrol price has increased by ₹2.35. With this, prices of petrol and diesel both have breached the ₹100-per litre mark in almost all states and cities of India.
