On Tuesday, April 26, a report by the news agency ANI, claimed that the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has accorded restricted emergency use authorisation to Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin for children between the age of 6-12 years.

On the other hand, the agency also reported that the DCGI granted emergency use authorisation to Corbevax as well for children between 5-12 years.

In addition to this, the narrative claims that the body has also granted emergency use authorisation to ZycovD (Zydus Cadila vaccine) for children over the age of 12 years.

These developments come at a day when India reported 2,483 fresh coronavirus cases and 1,970 recoveries. Similarly, the active cases stood at 15,636. 

Similarly, the threat of the fourth wave looms throughout the country. Considering this phenomenon, several states and union territories such as Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh, have brought back the mask mandate. Further commenting on the possible fourth wave, Dr. Gowri Kulkarni, Head of Operations, MediBuddy remarks, "With the uptick of fresh cases of COVID-19 in India, the authorities are implementing the protection protocols again. The rise of new cases in India is owing to the voluntary usage of masks. With the celebration of festivals, increase in people movement, and poor adherence to COVID protocols, the probability of another wave is high. However, there is no need to panic at this moment."

She concludes, "With an increase in vaccination and booster reach, probably the expected 4th wave of COVID would be lower in its severity and peak."
