In order to better prepare itself for a possible third wave of the coronavirus, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has decided to set up a special care centre for children at Belapur.

As experts state that the possible third wave is likely to impact children between the ages of 1-17, the civic body of Navi Mumbai has appealed to the citizens to take care of their children and remain cautious of any symptoms of the coronavirus. According to sources, the centre in Belapur is touted to have 300 beds for the COVID-19 patients.

Moreover, Municipal Commissioner Abhijeet Bangar interacted with the doctors of the COVID-19 task force as well as the All India Paediatricians Association.

Currently, the healthcare system in India is crumbling under the weight of patients, with hospitals running out of beds and medical oxygen. In addition, morgues and crematoriums have not been able to handle the number of deaths due to which makeshift funeral pyres have been burned in parks and car parks.

On the other hand, earlier on May 6, the NMMC started an innovative initiative called Drive-in Vaccination for the benefit of the citizens. As per reports, the plan was made to make it easier for the citizens above 45 years of age, especially senior citizens and the disabled.

This move was appreciated by the citizens who expressed satisfaction as they can get vaccinated comfortably while sitting in the car. Furthermore, with the expansion of vaccination centres, the civic body is also focused on providing various facilities to the citizens in order for them to get vaccinated without any effort.
