According to the latest Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) statistics, 72 cases of malaria, 47 cases of dengue, as well as, six chikungunya cases were reported in the first week of November, highlighted reports. With this, the incidence of mosquito-borne diseases continues to have its presence in the city.

Based on accounts, in 2021, cases of dengue have logged a tremendous increase. In contrast to 2020 there were 129 cases, whilst this year there have been 777 cases. Additionally, three individuals succumbed owing to the infection so far.

On the other hand, chikungunya cases have also risen this year. An aggregate of 54 cases has been registered this year. In the last two years, no cases were reported to the corporation. H1N1 influenza has slightly increased this year in contrast to the last. 44 cases were registered last year, this year they are 64.

A report by the Times Of India quoted the BMCs executive health officer, Dr Mangala Gomare who elaborated on how people must undertake the requisite precautions to hinder mosquito breeding both in and outside the home. She alerted people that they should refrain from self-medicating and visit a doctor.

Similarly, officials from the civic authority stated that the majority of the monsoon diseases were much lower owing to the coronavirus induced lockdown.
