Even though Mumbai has been lashed with heavy rains since the past two days, the owners of shopping malls and complexes have decided to resume operations from Wednesday, August 5, after more than four months, as per the civic body’s directives.
On Monday, August 3, the BMC issued a circular which permitted shopping malls and complexes to resume operations from Wednesday, between 9 am and 7 pm. However, theatres, restaurants and food courts are yet to receive permission from the civic body to restart their services. The kitchen of restaurants in food courts can, however, opt for home delivery through aggregators.
Amidst the coronavirus crisis, malls are gearing up to reopen keeping certain safety guidelines in mind. As per reports, fever checks will be conducted with scanners, moreover, bags will be disinfected at the entrances while sanitizers will be available at various points across the mall.
Period disinfection of the premises, cleaning the washrooms frequently and ensuring social distancing are also some of the guidelines that the shopping malls are to follow. Moreover, some malls have also made space available for staffers and customers if they show symptoms of the coronavirus in order to isolate them until medical workers reach the spot. There are also provisions for first aid kits and digital payment options. Ambulances are also said to be on standby, along with doctors on call.
The BMC earlier on August 3, permitted shops to be operational on all sides of the road in Mumbai seven days a week. Earlier, shops were permitted to operate in a way where shops on one side of the road remained open on odd days, and those on the other side remained open on even days.
However, the civic body has stated that the movement of people for non-essential activities are being restricted within the area one resides in and one should only venture out of his or her locality for work, or medical emergencies.
