Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday, April 13, announced stricter lockdown-like restrictions for next 15 days across the state starting tomorrow, April 14, 8 pm onwards.
While announcing the curfew, the Chief Minister has also announced a financial package of INR 5,400 crores for various sectors.
This comes amid an alarming spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the second wave, which has affected the COVID-19 healthcare facilities and infrastructure.
Though no complete lockdown has been declared, Section 144 will be in place across the state. Moreover, "Janta curfew" will be imposed in Maharashtra from 8 pm, April 14 till 7 am.
Only essential services will be available during the curfew. Therefore, no one will be allowed to venture out without valid reason, said an official statement. It also stated that all establishments and public places will remain shut for the next 15 days.
List of essential services that will be allowed:
- Veterinary services, animal care shelters and pet food shops
- Groceries, vegetable shops, fruit vendors, dairies, bakeries, confectionaries
- Only home delivery and take away services from restaurants and vendors
- Cold storage and warehousing services
- Trains and Bus services can be used only by essential workers and only for emergency. Flights will also be available. (Autos: Driver + 2 passengers; Taxi: Driver + 50 per cent of vehicle capacity; Bus: Full capacity but no standing passengers allowed)
- In addition to medical services, vaccine manufacturers and transporters, masks, disinfectant manufacturers and distributors, medical raw material manufacturing staff, political offices and IT services will continue.
- Services related to the functioning of offices of Diplomats of various countries
- Pre-monsoon works by local authorities
- All public services by local authorities
- Reserve Bank of India (RBI and services designated by RBI as essential
- Telecommunication services and related maintenance services will continue
- All offices of SEBI-recognised market infrastructure institutions and other intermediaries registered with SEBI
- Transport of good
- Agricultural activities
- Water supply services
- Export-Import services
- Accredited media houses and journalists (newspapers and magazines can be printed and circulated)
- E-commerce (only for the supply of essential goods and services)
- Petrol pumps
- ATMs
- Postal Services
What’s not allowed?
- AutoRickshaw, Taxis and private transport services will be completely closed during this period.
- Private offices, shops and markets will remain closed.
- All restaurants and hotels to remain closed for dine-in. Home delivery allowed
- Cinema halls, drama theatres, clubs, swimming pools, gyms, amusement parks to remain shut
- No shooting for films/serials/ads
- No schools and colleges across the state. Private coaching to remain shut. Students travelling for an exam may be allowed along with one adult on the basis of a valid hall ticket
- Public places like beaches, gardens, etc. to remain closed.
- Religious places of worship to remain closed
- Barbershops and saloons to remain closed
- Weddings to be allowed only with a maximum of 25 people present. Funerals to be allowed only with a maximum of 20 people
- Decisions on letting domestic help, drivers, attendants be taken by local authorities
- All shops/malls not performing essential services to remain closed
