In a substantial development, as per a report in mid-day a second lockdown can be imposed across the state of Maharashtra for a limited time period from April 2-3.

The lockdown happens to be an emergency protocol implemented by the government to curb the spread of the contagious disease COVID-19. Even though the lockdown can bring about several challenges with regards to sourcing groceries, sudden health emergencies or even the halting of work, especially for the daily wage labourers, it must be realized that the mortality rate for COVID-19 happens to be less this time, amidst the second wave of coronavirus.

According to reports, even though this shutdown can be expected to be different from last year’s as it would not hamper economic activities as it will essentially focus on preventing crowds from gathering by imposing stricter measures in order to contain the spread of the contagious disease.

This comes after the review meeting held by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday, March 28, in which the COVID-19 task force projected more deaths if restrictions were not imposed. In an official statement CM Thackeray stated, "Since the Covid protocol and guidelines are violated, the administration should prepare for a lockdown and make standard operating procedures available,"

Meanwhile, COVID-19 happens to be an infectious disease that can spread extremely fast. Moreover, the individuals who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms can still spread the disease which is why social distancing and limiting contact with others, in addition to other actions such as washing your hands and not touching your face, is pivotal.
