After a video of overcrowding at the Asheri Fort in Palghar district over the weekend went viral at least 250 tourists had been booked by the Kasa police. They were booked under the Disaster Management Act for violation of COVID-related protocols.

As the district was declared Level 2 from June 14-20, the administration had opened up vacation spots, together with monsoon getaways. 

Therefore, hundreds of tourists, together with trekkers visited the fort situated on the hills close to Mendhavan Khind on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad freeway on Saturday and Sunday. The trekking path begins from the hillock north of the Khodkona village, situated at the bottom of the fort.

Many were seen without masks in a video that went viral on social media platforms. As a result, the district was downgraded to Level 3 from Monday attributable to overcrowding in public locations and tourists have now been banned from visiting forts, seashores and different public locations.

The police reached the bottom of the village and fined individuals. Over INR 40,000 has been collected from fine, stated a police officer.

The fort is a favourite monsoon getaway for trekkers who stroll by way of the dense however secure forest. It takes about an hour to succeed in the fort.

As per the government 5-level plan, districts and cities falling in ‘Level 1’ will have the minimum restrictions, while lockdown-like curbs will continue in areas under ‘Level 5’.
