Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked parents across the state to get in touch with paediatricians immediately if their children start showing symptoms of the coronavirus. In a virtual meeting with 6,300 paediatricians from across the state, Thackeray said that getting an immediate diagnosis was necessary.

CM Thackeray has previously cautioned citizens of a potential third wave down the line. A Central Government panel recently said that a third COVID wave may arrive by October this year.

The virtual meeting also had members of the state’s COVID-19 task force and medical experts in attendance. “Don't be complacent and negligent regarding any symptoms in children. Consult a doctor immediately,” the CM said.

Thackeray lauded the efforts put in by the medical community in handling the second wave of the pandemic. He also stressed the need for paediatricians to comfort parents and ease their fears to some extent.

“We trust our doctors completely when it comes to treating children. Treatment shouldn't be a bigger problem than the actual disease itself. Doctors should advise parents properly. The threat of coronavirus still looms large,” the CM said.

A statement later posted by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) added that paediatricians were given guidance on identifying mild, medium, or severe symptoms of COVID-19 among children. The statement went on to add that other aspects like managing children with comorbidities as well as the diet of infected children were discussed.
