The second test match of India-New Zealand is set to take place at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from Friday, December 3, till Tuesday, December 7. However, due to the unseasonal rains in Mumbai on Wednesday, December 1, the pitch was under covers and has turned greenish.
This might force India to rethink its three spinner strategy. They might have to bring in an extra fast bowler and leave out one spinner.
In their first Test match in Kanpur, India banked largely on their three spinners to take wickets of the New Zealand team which ended up being a draw.
Due to the rains, both India and New Zealand had to cancel their training session on Wednesday, December 1, and the Wankhede ground was covered the whole time. The rains are forecast for Thursday, December 2, as well, meaning the pitch preparation for the surface would be hampered.
As per the state government's revised COVID-19 guidelines, only 25% of crowd capacity will be allowed at Wankhede.
Meanwhile, Mumbai is hosting a test match after five years. The last test match took place in 2016 where India played against England. It will be interesting to see what would be India's playing XI for the second test match.
