A day after Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar received a backlash for using objectionable language, she clarified saying that a tweet from her Twitter handle was posted by a Shiv Sena activist in a "fit of anger".

Pednekar also stated that the Shiv Sainik who tweeted was expelled.

Talking to reporters, the Mayor, who is also a Shiv Sena leader, said while she was attending a function in the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai on Wednesday, June 2, her mobile phone was handed over to a party activist who posted the tweet.

However, when she got her phone back, she immediately deleted the tweet, the mayor said.

“I do not use my phone during events and my phone is also not locked. However, now I have learned my lesson. No matter how close a person is, mobile phone should not be handed over to anyone, Pednekar expressed.

A row erupted on Wednesday when a Twitter user posed a question to the mayor about the status of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) global COVID-19 vaccine supply contract on the social media platform.

"Tuzya Bapala" (to your father), replied Kishori Pednekar when the Twitter user asked "Contract konala dila??" (to whom contract has been given) while commenting on a Marathi news channel's tweet regarding the BMC's global tender on COVID-19 vaccine supply.

Even though the tweet was deleted in no time, it went viral and screenshots were being circulated across social media. Opposition parties criticised Pednekar over the post. Moreover, netizens also demanded an apology from the mayor.
