The long-awaited trial runs on the 20-kilometre stretch between Charkop to Aarey as part of Metro 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar) and Metro 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East) has now received the nod from the Chief Electrical Inspector.

All nine stations on the Metro 2A and Metro 7 lines will be covered under the proposed trial run from the end of May.

The first ‘Made in India’ coach for Mumbai Metro was unveiled earlier this year by CM Uddhav Thackeray at the Charkop depot

“Nancy Colony sub-station that will provide traction power to the system has been charged on 110KV supply provided by Tata Power. Besides, OHE catenary wires of Line 7, where Phase I of the trials will be carried out between Ovaripada and Aarey, have also been charged on 25KV power after electrical safety certification by electrical inspector to Government of India. Line is now ready to carry out the dynamic trial of prototype train set,” an MMRDA spokesperson said.

The prototype train set is reportedly ready at the Charkop Depot for the dynamic trials. The MMRDA has said that the dynamic testing and trial runs will go on for a period of two months.

A team from BEML (formerly Bharat Earth Movers Limited) will be present during the trial runs as the firm has supplied the coaches for Metro 2 and 7 lines.
