On Wednesday, Bharati Pawar, union minister of state for Health and Family Welfare stated that the Centre has allocated Rs 23,000 cr as a constituent of the emergency fund for COVID-19 as part of the National Health Mission (NHM) for India. Based on the report by the Times of India, Maharashtra received its initial instalment of Rs 123cr as part of this scheme. Pawar added that the state should make use of these funds by undertaking health projects.

Pawar, according to the account, elaborated on how the centre has dispatched Rs 123cr to Maharashtra as the first instalment as part of the NHM. She added that these funds will enable the state to undertake health projects which should include the likes of covid-19 management and diverse activities.

A senior public health official from Maharashtra elucidated that for the financial year 2021-22, the Centre has accepted a scheme of Rs 4,500cr based on a 60:40 division formula. In light of this, the Centre will give Rs 2,700cr and state government will give Rs 1,800cr which will comprise a stipulation of Rs 1,300cr for covid-19 management, added the official. Before the beginning of the financial year, a high-level meeting of the national project consultation committee was conducted wherein this proposal was approved, stated the official, based on the report.

Funds can be utilized to employ human resources for health management that could also include ambulance, Pawar mentioned, according to the narrative.
