Recall Maharashtra Governor: Shiv Sena tells Modi, Shah

The political letter by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has irked Shiv Sena. In an editorial published in ‘Saamana’, the party slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying that they have been “exposed” for using the governor’s office for attacking the state government.

Shiv Sena asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that Governor Koshyari should be recalled if they wish to save the “prestige” of Raj Bhavan.

This comes after Koshyari on Monday wrote a letter to Thackeray questioning the government’s decision to keep the places of worship closed in Maharashtra. The Governor further questioned the Chief Minister’s commitment to Hindutva and mocked him for turning ‘secular’.

Shiv Sena justified Thackeray’s response to the political letter and said that Modi and Shah should recall the governor to save the standing of Raj Bhavan.

“Even the gods must be ringing the temples bells in happiness and if the sound of those reaches Modi and Shah, they should recall the governor,” the editorial read.

Thackeray had responded to Koshyari saying that looking after the health and welfare of the citizens was his government’s primary duty and opening temples would not be feasible amid the COVID-19 outbreak. He further said that he doesn’t need any lessons or certificate in Hindutva from the Governor.

Shiv Sena is becoming aggressive in seeking the removal of Governor Koshyari from the office at Raj Bhavan. In the editorial, Shiv Sena said that restaurants have opened with strict COVID-19 protocol in place but reopening temples will see crowding. “There should be a national policy for it,” it added.

Earlier, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed displeasure over the language used by Koshyari.

Conveying his views regarding the same, Pawar said that even the PM would have noticed the intemperate language that has been used. The word ‘Secular’ is added that equates and shields all religions and hence the Chair of the Chief Minister must uphold such tenets of the Constitution, he asserted.
