17 families evacuated after fire breaks out in Thane's 4-storey building

Another fire incident was reported in a residential building on Tuesday early morning, November 16.

According to reports, a fire broke out in the electric meter room of a four-storey residential building in Maharashtra's Thane district. Following this, as a precautionary measure, 17 families residing there were evacuated, civic officials said.

The Thane Municipal Corporation’s regional disaster management cell (RDMC), the incident took place at around 4:45 am in the power meter room of Rakhma Society at Kharegaon in Kalwa area.

The officials also stated that 16 power meters were destroyed in the fire. After being alerted, local firemen, RDMC team, police and power supply company officials rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.

However, the cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of fire incidents across the city, especially in the high-rises and residential buildings, in the past weeks.

Meanwhile, a tempo contracted by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to examine air and sound pollution at the Metrorail construction sites in Thane district caught fire on November 12. However, no casualties were logged in the mishap, highlighted accounts.
