Benchmark Indices End Flat, Metals & Auto Gain

Benchmark indices recovered from day’s low point and ended flat. Metal, Auto and PSU stocks outperformed.

At close, the Sensex was down 85.40 points or 0.16 per cent at 51,849.48 and the Nifty was up 1.30 points or 0.01 per cent at 15,576.20.

About 2101 shares have advanced, 951 shares declined and 160 shares remain unchanged.

On the Nifty 50 index, UPL (2.67 per cent), Tata Steel (2.10 per cent), SBI Life Insurance (1.87 per cent), IndusInd Bank (1.78 per cent) and Adani Ports (1.67 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while ITC (-2.90 per cent), Tech Mahindra (-1.31 per cent), Axis Bank (-1.09 per cent), Asian Paints (-0.93 per cent) and Kotak Mahindra (-0.77 per cent) were the top losers for the day.

On the sectoral front, except Nifty IT (-0.75 per cent) and Nifty FMCG (-0.52 per cent) all other sectoral indices ended in green. Nifty Metal (2.18 per cent) and Nifty Auto (1.82 per cent) were the top performing sectors for the day.

The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained 1.75 per cent and 1.29 per cent respectively.

Author’s View: Nifty managed to sustain and close above its important support at 15,300. This indicates towards bullish trend in the short term. If the current trend continues Nifty may go up to 15,900 – 16,000 level.
