On Monday, December 6, nearly 105 of the 250 bus depots of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) began plying, stated an official from the MSRTC, highlighted reports.

Since October 27, the MSRTC personnel have been on strike since they are demanding the merger of the corporation with the Maharashtra government. They hope to receive benefits that are at par with the government employees.

Till recently, nearly all the 250 depots across Maharashtra have been non-operational. Officials believe that the employees are now responding to Anil Parab, Maharashtra Transport Minister’s appeal. Parab had urged all the employees to come back to work.

According to reports, on Monday from the aggregate strength of 92,266 MSRTC employees, 19,000 reported back to work. Officials claim that 734 buses were operating on Sunday that has done 1,703 trips and offered their services to 1.4 lakh passengers.

Based on accounts, this activity has added INR 76,30,000 to the corporation’s treasury. The MSRTC’s fleet is approximately 16,000 buses prior to the pandemic. It was offering its services to 65 lakh passengers daily.

An official claimed that on Saturday, December 4, only 49 depots were operational. On the other hand, on Monday 56 more began plying. The MSRTC stated that it is considering action against those striking.

The MSRTC had begun transferring those involved in the strike, with 9,384 employees were suspended, 1,980 staffers were terminated. An official said that over 40 buses have been vandalized so far throughout Maharashtra, as well as 93 police cases have been registered.
