Mumbai: BJP, Bajrang Dal Workers Protest Against "Renaming" Of Sports Complex

In the aftermath of the inauguration of a refurbished sports complex in Malwani funded by Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh, a considerable number of BJP and Bajrang Dal workers conducted a protest on Wednesday, January 26 remarking that they were against the move to "rename" the place after Mysore king Tipu Sultan, reports stated.

However, Maharashtra cabinet minister, Aadtiya Thackeray was quoted by narratives elaborating on how the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not cleared any proposal to rename the park after Tipu Sultan. He added that the civic body has authority over such issues.

Situated in Malad west's Malwani, the spot is popularly known as the Tipu Sultan Ground, claimed accounts. Based on reports, Congress leader and state cabinet minister Aslam Shaikh representing to Malwani constituency had undertaken the refurbishment and expansion work of the ground by means of his MLA development fund. 

It was reported that the work on the project was completed and he was scheduled to inaugurate the facility on Wednesday. However, the BJP protested, with Leader of Opposition, Devendra Fadnavis, remarking that they will not permit the ground to be named after someone who is responsible for the deaths of many Hindus.

Many BJP, VHP and Bajrang Dal workers gathered outside the location and protested, claimed accounts. They were believed to have blocked the road and punctured the tyres of two buses. Two FIRS have been registered against 64 people from Bajrang Dal and the BJP stated accounts.
