On Tuesday, June 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the class 12 board examinations have been cancelled in view of the pandemic.

Moreover, he stated that the decision regarding the same has been taken in the interest of students due to the uncertain situation created due to the second wave of the coronavirus and the surge in COVID-19 cases.

According to reports, the Prime Minister was briefed about all the possible options for Class 12 students. On Tuesday evening, PM Modi chaired a review meeting in order to discuss the class 12 board examinations. Officials gave a detailed presentation on the wide and extensive consultation held so far and views received from all stakeholders, including State governments.

Meanwhile, PM added that while the numbers are coming down in the country and some states are managing the situation through effective micro-containment, some states have still opted for a lockdown. In addition, he stated that as parents and teachers are worried about the health of the students, they should not be forced to appear for the examinations when the country is going through such a stressful situation.

On the other hand, in recent developments, the education ministry informed that Ramesh Pokhriyal has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi due to post COVID-19 complications.
