Omicron Scare: 4 passengers detected COVID-19 positive in Mumbai so far

On Tuesday, November 30, the BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal stated that the civic authority is tracing all passengers who landed at Mumbai airport from South Africa in the previous two weeks to probe the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron.

According to the latest report, four international passengers arrived to Mumbai airport from ‘at risk nations’ have been detected with the novel coronavirus amid the threat posed by the new COVID-19 variant Omicron. All four patients, residents of Mumbai, are asymptomatic and have been shifted to Seven Hills Hospital.

Moreover, their samples have been sent for genome sequencing to ascertain if they are carrying the pathogens of Omicron.

The latest case was recorded on Wednesday, December 1, through a rapid antigen test. The passenger is a 25-year-old male and has arrived from London.

Meanwhile, one is a 21-year-old male from London who arrived on November 10, a 47-year-male with travel history from Mauritius, who landed on November 25 and a 39-year-old male passenger who landed in Mumbai from South Africa also tested positive.

Besides, a total of six international passengers from "countries of concerns" across Maharashtra have tested positive for COVID-19.

Earlier, a man who returned from South Africa in DombivaliThane district of Maharashtra, recently has tested positive for coronavirus, an official said on Sunday, November 28. On November 25, an individual who had returned to Pune from Zambia has tested positive for COVID-19, reported news agency ANI. The man had returned from Zambia to Mumbai on November 20.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revealed that at least 1,000 travellers had landed in Mumbai in the last 15 days from Omicron-hit countries.

On Tuesday, November 30, the BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal stated that the civic authority is tracing all passengers who landed at Mumbai airport from South Africa in the previous two weeks to probe the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron.

The Mumbai airport authority has informed that around 1,000 travellers had landed here from African countries in the last fortnight, but it has handed over a list of only 466 such passengers so far, BMC Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani was quoted by PTI.
