The Weather Department, on May 14, 2021, warned a few states regarding the Cyclone Tauktae, and keeping the same in mind, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed the citizens that the vaccination drive on Saturday and Sunday, i.e., May 15 and 16, 2021, has been cancelled.

BMC, on Friday, May 14, announced the same on Twitter, with a message that read, "Dear Mumbaikars, Please note that there will be NO VACCINATION tomorrow and day after i.e. 15th and 16th May 2021.  Please watch this space for further updates for the days ahead."

This decision was applicable only to government-run vaccination centres and private hospitals were allowed to maintain their schedule and share the same with the public. Confirming the same with PTI, BMC's Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani called this a 'precautionary measure' due to the cyclone as it was passing through the city, and conducting the drive at this time could affect the citizens in Mumbai.

On the other hand, officials from the civic body are taking every measure to curb the spread of coronavirus vaccine. Efforts are being made to procure vaccine and keeping the same in mind, a global EoI was floated recently to procure over one crore doses of vaccines. Applications for the same are said to remain open until Tuesday May 18, 2021.

EoI are expected from vaccine manufacturers across the world, distributors, wholesalers and other authorised bodies, however, one cannot apply for the EoI if they belong to any country which shared the border with India.

Vaccines will also be procured only if they abide to the guidelines drafted by ICMR and DCGI.
