The diesel rates have increased for the fourth consecutive day on Friday, October 8 across the nation. Following this hike, the diesel rate in Thane and Navi Mumbai has breached the INR 100-mark. As per the latest report, diesel is retailing at the highest ever price of INR 100.05 per litre today in Thane and Navi Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the price of diesel in Mumbai is just six paise away to touch the INR 100-a-litre mark in the city.

The price of petrol in Mumbai rose to its highest-ever level of INR 109.54 per litre, while diesel costs INR 99.92 a litre.

Besides, the petrol price in Delhi has reached INR 103.54 a litre and diesel rates too touched a record high of ₹92.12 in the national capital.

In Kolkata, one-litre petrol is available ₹104.23 and one-litre diesel is 95.23 and in Chennai, one-litre petrol is available at ₹101.01 and ₹96.60 for one litre of diesel.

The constant hikes in diesel prices are devastating the lives of the poor truckers who are unable to make their operations economically viable. Diesel now constitutes about 75% of the operating cost. The freight is not increasing proportionately as they are neither they are cost-based nor the government is fixing minimum cost per ton per kilometre as per law, said a transporter.

Moreover, skyrocketing fuel prices have hit the common man hard. The Opposition keeps cornering the Modi government over rising fuel prices.
