In support of the ongoing inoculation efforts in the city, the Dawoodi Bohra community today announced the opening of a free COVID-19 Vaccination Centre in Mohammedi Masjid complex at Mohammed Ali Road in South Mumbai.
The vaccination centre was inaugurated by NCP Leader Supriya Sule, Shiv Sena Member of Parliament Arvind Sawant and Mumbai Congress President Bhai Jagtap along with Members of the Legislative Assembly and representatives of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Board Members of Anjumane Shiate Ali, Saifuddin Fakhrudin and Taher Husamuddin also graced the occasion along with the head of Mohammedi Masjid, Amil Saheb Mustafa Indorewala.
The vaccination centre has been set up by Anjuname Shiate Ali, the organisation that manages Bohra community affairs in Mumbai, under the umbrella of the community’s global philanthropic initiative, Project Rise.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, NCP leader Supriya Sule appreciated the efforts taken by the Dawoodi Bohra community in transforming their Masjid Complex into a COVID-19 Vaccination Centre. Particularly lauding the instrumental role played by Saifee Hospital in Mumbai to treat patients in these challenging times. “Collective efforts and responsible behaviour have helped in bringing down the number of active coronavirus cases in the city,” she added.
With a capacity to accommodate over 300 people, the vaccination centre will currently cater to people above 45 years of age by online appointment.
Fakhruddin Palanpurwala, who is in charge of managing the centre said, “We are grateful for the support of BMC and local authorities in setting this up. The entire Masjid Complex is divided into different zones to ensure proper social distancing and efficient flow management during the process.”
Earlier the Dawoodi Bohra community in Mumbai set up a COVID-19 War Room to assist patients and their families with oxygen cylinders, oximeters and beds along with consultation from a panel of multi-speciality doctors on a real-time basis.
