The second wave of the coronavirus which had ravaged Mumbai, and the country at large, has now been contained, especially in the slums across the city.

According to sources, currently, there are no containment zones in Dharavi, the largest slum in Asia. For seven days in a row since August 14, no slum in Mumbai has been declared as a containment zone. Moreover, the city’s hotspot Dharavi has also been declared to be corona-free.

In Mumbai, 60 per cent of people live in slums areas. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, slums across Dharavi, Worli, Koliwada and other places became hotspots of the COVID-19 disease. However, due to the measures taken by the municipal administration and the health department, cases of coronavirus has substantially diminished in the areas.

As per the August 13 data, two slums were declared as containment zones in Mumbai. On August 14, no slums or chawls were declared as containment zones. So far 2,794 containment zones have been cleared from Mumbai. Meanwhile, 24 buildings and 1,087 floors are still sealed.

Meanwhile, testing plans are being drafted to control the infection, and clean up marshals have been deployed in several areas under the directive of the municipality. In recent developments, the Mumbai Police has taken up the task of disciplining the citizens through patrolling. Every department is raising awareness among the locals with the help of representatives. According to authorities, officials are controlling the crowds in the market and cracking down on those walking without face masks.
