Recently, the pre-admission registrations for several technical courses ended, and Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) cell figures revealed that registrations for the Bachelor of Architecture (B Arch) course have dipped by nearly 38 per cent.

In 2020, there were 5,567 registrations, while this year, there were only 3,465 registrations. The students have blamed the eligibility criteria for a dip in B Arch courses.

Earlier, the Council of Architecture (CoA) had issued a notification stating that they will only accept the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) scores for registrations. Until last year, the aspirants were allowed to register using either their Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Mains) or NATA scores. CoA had stated that JEE scores will only be accepted for admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and central universities.

A lot of students had raised their voices against the eligibility criteria since many of them had scored well in their JEE exams. Due to the change, students are going to opt for NATA exams in 2022 and will be taking admissions next year.

JEE and NATA exams were held in multiple sessions this year to give students an option of choosing the best score out of the multiple sessions.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has witnessed a rise in the number of applicants for engineering course. Compared to last year the number has gone up by almost 15 per cent.
