According to reports, Narayan Rane was arrested for the comments he passed against Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray by the Ratnagiri police. Three FIRs were registered against him in Nashik, Pune and Mahad each for his alleged comment on slapping Thackeray, because the latter was claimed to have forgotten the independence year of the country, stated a report by Hindustan Times.

This comes after Rane passed the above comments on Monday during the Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Raigad.

Rane’s arrest comes post the Bombay High Court refusing to entertain his urgent hearing for his plea for an anticipatory bail. Justices S S Shinde and N J Jamadar asked the politician’s lawyer to adhere to the due procedure prior to coming to court.

Based on reports, Rane had also made an application, to crush the three FIRs lodged against him. However, the court refrained from listening to the said petition as well.

The remarks had earlier resulted in unrest between the two parties, with clashes transpiring in Mumbai, amongst other cities. It is said that the Shiv Sena doesn’t just want Rane to apologise, but also want him to be removed from the cabinet ministry.

At BJP’s office in Nashik, if reports are to be believed, stones were pelted.

Devendra Fadnavis, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister stated that whilst the party doesn’t support Rane’s comment, the party will stand by him 100 per cent.
