From Monday that is October 4, all schools and junior colleges for grades 8 to 12 in Mumbai have been accorded the permission to reopen, stated reports. This is the first instance since March 2020 that schools in the island city will open their doors to the students.

On Thursday, throughout the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), civic authorities of Thane and Navi Mumbai will undertake the resolution to reopen schools and junior colleges. According to reports, Dr Manek Gursal, the Palghar district collector elaborated that a meeting in regards to the resumption of schools will be undertaken on October 5.

It was on September 24, that the Maharashtra government set the stage to resume grades 8-12 in the urban areas and grades 5-7 in the hinterland from October 4. BMC Chief, Iqbal Singh Chahal, on Wednesday, accorded authorization to commence in-person classes for the 2021-22 academic year for higher secondary students, mentioned narratives.

The educational establishments will be required to adhere to COVID-19 protocols which have been instituted by the state government. Apart from this, parental permission, vaccination of teaching as well as non-teaching personnel also needs to be undertaken. Schools, both aided and unaided in the island city will be expected to conduct sanitization and fumigation of their classrooms and premises employing their funds. Civic schools, on the other hand, will need to liaison with the respective assistant municipal commissioners to see to it that COVID-19 protocols are in place.
