In recent developments, officers from Pant Nagar police station reportedly went undercover and worked as a waiter and a manager in a fast-food joint in Andheri in order to arrest two residents who have been involved in several chain-snatching incidents in the eastern suburbs over the past two years.

According to reports, on August 22, three incidents of chain snatchings were recorded. In view of the situation, the officers began investigating the crime on top priority after which the undercover plan was then put in place.

Meanwhile, the chain snatchers were identified as Mohammed Hanifa Hakam, 33, and Haider Ali Sarang, 32. Moreover, the officers stated that these two have been avoiding arrest for many months now. Furthermore, they had been hiding the motorcycle used for the crime at various pay and parks across the city. In addition, they removed the bike only to commit the crime, in secluded areas in early mornings.

However, after tracing the movement of the suspects on more than 30 CCTVs from Chembur to Andheri, they found that the motorcycle which was observed in the CCTVs was parked at Sakinaka.

On the other hand, with the festivities of Ganeshotsav set to commence in September, huge crowds are expected in public circles and other places in Mumbai. In view of the situation, the Mumbai Police has planned to strictly enforce rules with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic.
