Personnel of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) continued to demand the merger with the state government, whilst continuing their strike on Monday, November 15, causing bus operations to be non-functional at all the 250 depots in Maharashtra, stated officials, reported the PTI.

On Sunday, November 15, almost 4,000 employees came to work and nearly 80 buses functioned on various routes. A spokesperson of the MSRTC was quoted by the report elaborating on how bus operations at all 250 depots were non-operational on Monday but many employees came back to work.

Whilst the strike commenced on October 28, it gained further momentum earlier this month. Their demand will not only accord them the status of government employees but also offer them better salaries.

The state government on the other hand has constituted a committee to look into the issue. On Friday, November 12, the MSRTC proclaimed a pamphlet urging employees to promptly call off the strike. Additionally, it spoke about the increase in dearness allowance, house rent allowance and Diwali gift for the employees.

The pamphlet also mentioned that whilst the aggregate losses of the body had mounted to INR 12,000cr, it had managed to pay the remuneration for the past 18 months by seeking financial assistance worth INR 3,549cr from the Maharashtra government.

It went on to warn of long-term financial repercussions since ordinary commuters have been bearing the burnt and the body is losing INR 15-20cr daily owing to the strike.

According to certain accounts, the total number of suspended employees was 2,178 and a total of 2,053 employees were suspended till November 11. In the last two days, reports claim that 125 more employees were suspended.

On Sunday, 2 attempted suicide outside Mantralaya when a group of activists of the Jan Shakti Party reached outside the state secretariat Mantralaya in south Mumbai around 11 am.
