After receiving whopping commuters over the weekend, the Mumbai Metro Line 2A and 7 saw a dull response from the passengers on the first working day of the week, on Monday, April 4, after its commencement. However, on three days of operations, MMDRA successfully crossed the first milestone of ferrying 1,00,000 passengers.

Officials attribute this to the technical glitch that was reported yesterday, which affected the operations of the newly-inaugurated Metro corridor between Dahanukarwadi and Aarey. With this, the three days old metro services, brought disruption for the all three consecutive days in a row.
According to reports, only 26,373 people traveled on the Phase 1 of Metro Line 2A and Line 7 between Kandivali and Goregaon. This was nearly 50 per cent less readership than Sunday, April 3, which observed 57,392 commuters.
Meanwhile, from 6 am till 7 pm only 19,795 passengers travelled on Monday. However, nearly 20,000 commuters alone availed the services within two hours on the first day of the operations. Whereas, a day earlier, on Sunday, the footfall between 6 am to 10 pm was nearly 60,000.

MMMOCL officials stated that the Sunday ridership was over 55,000 passengers which generated revenue of INR 11.82 lakh.
Clarifying about the snag, officials shared that the glitch was reported in a train that was heading to Aarey from the Magathane station. The train was withdrawn from service, which further resulted in delays in the operations.
Moreover, it has come to light that a meeting was held for two hours with the BEML, Metro manufacturers and other system providers company after the disruption took place to understand the issue.

Officials exclaimed that with time, these problems shall overcome and it will increase the footfall, like Mumbai Metro One which used to see 4.75 lakh ridership pre-COVID times. The Phase 1 of the two lines has a capacity to carry almost 3 lakh passengers everyday, officials added.
Meanwhile, several commuters shared that they prefer travelling by Mumbai local trains as Phase 1 of Metro lines 2A and 7 is not providing direct seamless connectivity beyond Goregaon and Dahisar.
As per the latest update, the remaining stretch is targeted to be open to the public before August 15.
